Buxted Park Cinema

Hocken AV were asked by Hand Picked Hotels to handle the refurbishment of their historic Buxted Park Hotel - a challenge that was relished by the team. The brief was to develop the cinema into a versatile, flexible space that could be used to enhance the hotel’s corporate and conference offering.

The solution was to add state-of-the-art AV technology to the already impressive cinema space. As well as offering a platform for conventional film screening, the new installation uses wireless laptop technology to enable users to utilise the space for multimedia presentations, seminars and lectures.

This in turn has allowed Buxted Park to offer a new level of corporate facilities to it’s clients. “Since it’s refurbishment, the cinema has added a new dimension to Buxted Park. With its contemporary feel and high-tech facilities, it introduces a whole new client base to the hotel and has been greeted with fantastic praise from guests and clients alike” says Alec Howarth, General Manager at Buxted Park Hotel.

“The hotel has been able to utilise the new installation for both business and leisure clients and are looking in the spring to develop a Sunday Evening Cinema Club for local residents.”

Kenneth Shipman, the owner of Twickenham Studios, owned Buxted Park between the mid 1960's and the early 1970's. He used the impressive property to entertain his stars, with guests such as Marlon Brando, Dudley Moore and Gregory Peck regulars at the house. At the time, he built a cinema to view his latest productions and this cinema, recently refurbished by Hocken AV, is still in use today. Buxted Park Cinema The now 30 - 50 seat cinema was originally built in the late 1960's to view the works coming out of his Twickenham Film Studios and to entertain Shipman’s friends in the film industry.
