Kimberly-Clark

Kimberly-Clark asked us to attend a meeting at their UK head office in Kings Hill to review and discuss ways in which improvements could be made in the use and setup of their existing videoconference rooms.

They sought a solution that would allow the videoconferencing facilities in their meeting rooms that are located all around the country, to be controlled from central locations.

This situation was put to us and we set about designing a control system package that allows any remote user (on or offsite) to set up and test each room remotely. The system we designed incorporated a Crestron control processor, Fujitsu 42” plasma screen, PolyCom videoconference unit and web camera. The system is connected to Kimberly-Clark’s network, which enables specific users with password clearance to access and set up each room remotely.

Each room has a digital voice box, which can trigger test audio sounds to ensure that the microphones in the room are set to the correct levels prior to the videoconference starting. The user can also switch the plasma screens on or off and select any of the inputs at any time from the remote location.

There is a web camera also looking at the entire room so, prior to any videoconference taking place, all systems can be checked and made ready via the network. The recent installations have been very successful and further systems are being rolled out to Paris and Brighton so that all their rooms in Europe can be setup and monitored by their central IT department in Kent.
